At WIN Energy REMC, your safety is our top priority. If you plan on doing any digging projects on your property, whether that's a major excavation project or just planting a tree, please call 811 at least two full working days before digging. This will give crews an opportunity to have all underground utility lines located and marked on your property for FREE. This one-call service locates all underground utilities, including electricity.
How it works:
Call 811 two working days prior to digging.
You'll be asked to provide the following information:
- Your name
- Street address
- County
- Township
- Type of work
- Phone number
- Contractor name and address (if applicable)
After calling, a person will stop by your property to mark the underground lines in your area. Once all utilities are checked, the ground will be marked with a dotted line or a flag with "OK" painted on the ground. Dotted lines indicate underground lines and a flag and "OK" mean that there are no facility lines in that location and the area has been checked. Red, yellow, orange, and blue markers should be present before you dig; this indicates that all necessary utility lines have been checked.
If Indiana 811 is not notified and damage is done to the underground lines, it will be the member's responsibility to pay for the cost of the repairs. A simple call to IUPPS could save you costly damages and possibly your life. For more information visit the Indiana 811 website.
